Giving hope to children and adults in crisis, both home and abroad

October 25-November 1, 2025

Our annual Week of Service activity is open to sisters and friends of Alpha Delta Pi, worldwide!

Break out those knitting needles or crochet hooks to create blanket segments, or be a sponsor for school and hygiene supplies. Learn more about our 2025 beneficiaries and instructions for this year's blanket rectangles (not squares this year) below.

How to Participate

Knit or crochet 7" by 9" sections, weaving in the tail at the beginning and end of the sections (don't cut yard close to the knot because it can unravel). Please use #4 medium acrylic yarn if possible. WUA is creating a fall color scheme, such as maroon, green, cream, and orange/rust colors, but they will accept any color or pattern. Completed blankets are also welcome! Get your friends, family, and/or a local knitting group to participate! The more the merrier! Mail items no later than November 2, 2025 to Carol Ward Salmon. Be a sponsor for basic school, hygiene, and other supplies by donating $15, $25, $50, or more. Funds will be sent to First Hope, an organization that has been fully vetted by Alpha Xi and who we’ve worked with for 5 years. 100% of the funds go towards hygiene and school kits for refugee children. It takes a village of sisters worldwide to make this project a success! Donations are not tax-deductible. PayPal fees will be deducted from donations. All donations will be used for school and hygiene supplies.

Warm Up America (WUA)

This US-based non-profit's mission is committed to motivating, training and coordinating volunteers to knit and crochet afghans for people in need. WUA blankets are distributed to individuals and families through community service organizations as well through chapters of national organizations such as the American Red Cross.

Alpha Xi aims to join this mission with knitted and crocheted blanket squares donated by ΑΔΠ sisters. Volunteers at WUA will sew the squares together into blankets and distribute them to those in need, such as women’s shelters, nursing homes, children’s hospitals, and American Red Cross chapters.

First Hope

A non-profit located in Turkey, First Hope addresses the needs of Syrian and other refugee children who live in dire conditions. Refugees cannot legally be employed and the government has cut funds for refugees leaving many families struggling to met their basic needs. First Hope also works with Red Crescent (Red Cross) to distribute aid.

Through First Hope, Alpha Xi aims to bring a little relief to refugee children by providing much-needed hygiene and school supplies kits. Items as simple as a bar of soap and toothpaste or some pencils and a notebook are gold to families that can’t afford food for their children
